Educating and Empowering
SCA’s workshops and advanced training partners yoga and meditation with contemporary and contemplative psychology as these tools apply to at risk/in need populations.
Beginning with the desire to help others is an important first step, but not the only one. SCA’s training and workshops were created to meet the serious needs for education, understanding and safety.
We do not believe that a mere weekend can prepare someone to work with at risk, or in need populations. In our experience, a 200 -hour yoga teacher training does not equip someone to work in a hospital, alternative to incarceration facility, or with those who have experienced trauma.
We offer a holistic, integrative and specialized approach to working with people in need and at risk by providing essential understanding of each population as well as suitable awareness practices to work with their realities. Rather than teaching from concept, theory or study, we are able to offer years of actual front line experience. We know that the practices of mindfulness meditation, yoga postures, visualization practices and breath practices have the capacity and ability to change minds, open hearts, and empower others – we have been witness to countless results over the years.
Among those we wish to encourage and welcome to our workshops:
- Therapists
- Social workers
- Psychiatrists
- Occupational Therapists
- School Teachers
- Yoga Teachers
- Parents
- Doctors
- Nurses
- Body Workers
Ancient Practices in Modern Language and for Contemporary Settings
Workshops led by our experienced faculty, will provide insights about connecting the mind and it’s body, cultivating compassion for oneself and others, skills to becoming more awake and being present, and facilitating the healing processes for the body, heart and mind. Guided by Founder and Director Jill Satterfield, the SCA faculty practices what they teach – remaining continually and deeply involved with meditation, Buddhist philosophy and psychology and yoga practices.
